I was made aware of a community organization that feeds 1200 people on Christmas Eve through the Lewisville Council of PTAs.
The Leann Van Zandt Community Center in one of the poorest areas of Ft. Worth just lost their sponsor for their Christmas event.
On Christmas Day from 11am-1pm, they open the gym and feed about 1200 people. Once the families are done with their meal, they take there child to Santa Land to receive a free toy from Santa and Mrs. Claus. When they finish with Santa Land, all families receive a free bag of groceries. All these amazing things are possible each year because of the support of our community and donations. This year funds and donations are down and we are still lacking about 600 toys. (UPDATE: They only need 200 more!) We don't want any child to leave empty handed so we are asking for all the help we can get to make this possible. We give out toys to ages 0-16 years and our greatest need is 12-16 age group. Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated!
I have a few items I am going to donate and plan on going out tomorrow to get some things for the older kids. I know time is running out and we are all busy and have donated much this season already. Can you possibly help with any of these items?
- Hair accesories
- Perfumes and colognes
- Chocolate bars with $5-10 gift card
- Cash donation
They are asking that no clothing or sporting equipment be donated.
If you can help out, please let me know ASAP so I can assist in getting everything to the organizer by Monday. Your help is greatly appreciated!! I can't imagine a child only getting one gift for Christmas and that gift doesn't happen. Breaks my heart! Let's see what we can do, Friends!
