Trends With Tricia: Academy Sports and Outdoors Opening October 11 in Flower Mound

Academy Sports and Outdoors Opening October 11 in Flower Mound

Academy Sports and Outdoors is opening tomorrow in Flower Mound...are you excited?!

I was invited to attend the media-only event showing off the shiny new Academy located at 3621 Justin Road across from The Shops at Highland Village.  The manager, Russell, was kind enough to give me a personal tour of the store and let me tell you, it's a beauty!

When Wal-Mart came into town, the Highland Village location was the first of its kind.  Wider aisles, energy-efficient features, a sushi bar and an upscale wine selection.  I asked Russell if this Academy was going to be the same as the other locations around the area.  He got a look in his eye and a smile on his face like Santa giving out gifts on Christmas.

The Flower Mound store will have the same overall look and feel of most Academy locations.  There are a few noticable and exciting differences in this new store.

One of the first things you will notice is the store does have a slightly larger foot print than most Academy locations. The golf section has been expanded to feature more name brands and a larger selection for golfers of all ages and skill levels.

This is quite a cool addition to Academy.  This driving range and simulator is an opportunity for you to try out new clubs before you spend money on that must-have new set or you can just bring in your clubs and see why you've developed a nasty hook with your driver.  Oh, and did I mention, this is free?  Very nice!

The new and improved shoe department has lower shelving to allow you to ooh and aah over the brightly colored sneakers and cross trainers.

If yoga is more your speed, check out the brand now featured in Flower Mound's Academy, Soybu.  Soybu was started in Colorado in 1998 and has unique and versatile styles in yoga or fitness-appropriate apparel.  Cute stuff!

There's plenty of opportunities to feel at home at this new Academy.  You'll have no trouble finding all of the usual things like shin guards, treadmills, bikes, hunting and camping gear that have made Academy a popular choice for consumers in the South.  But did you know that Academy also carries spices and marinades? I had no clue!  Sporting goods will include the likely suspects of football, basketball and soccer but this Academy is slated to house a whole section of lacrosse equipment come the spring.

Another new addition to the Academy family is an archery section with a spot for you to test out a potential weapon.  Much like the golf simulator, you are able to test out the bow before making a purchase.

In the end, my sneak peek of Academy was quite nice.  I know I am not alone in saying that this is a great addition to our community.  With high-quality gear, competitive prices and great selection, Academy will be a hugely successful business and a win-win for consumers.

Yes, when we first moved to the area in 2004, we said if we had a Costco, Half Price Books and Academy, we wouldn't have to leave our bubble!  Happy to have Academy here!
